If a man does not keep pace with his companions perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.
Let him step to the music he hears however measured or far away.

My finished quilt entry in the Pantone Challenge for 2015
A Different Drummer
Original design, Mary Menzer
This quilt is a modge-podge of different designer fabrics - I used Kona Brick as my jumping off point to match Marsala (see some of my fabric selection here), bringing other fabrics into the fold
I used Andover Chambray in dark gray in the sashing and for some of the squares, other fabrics are Oakshott, Kona, Alison Glass, Kaffe Fassett, and a couple of my Aborigine fabrics from Australia.
In this post I have progress photos and a photo of the top before quilting
the measurement before quilting was 56" x 71"
After quilting with a variety of Aurifil 40 wt, 28 wt and a YLI jean stitch thread the measurement is 53 1/2" x 67" - has not been washed - for the binding I used the chambray, the batting is Matilda cotton /silk blend.
I love the warmth of the Marsala colors, mixed with the texture of the chambray and the white textured linen I used for the stripey bits. The colored heavier weight quilting threads add dimension and texture also.
I am not a fan of this colour palette but I really do love your quilt!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt Mary- as a fellow lover of Marsala you did an outstanding job!
ReplyDeleteoh this is SO striking! I love what you've done!
ReplyDeleteI bet your quilt feels amazing with the mix of fabrics, marsala has honestly slipped past me as a colour to work with but your quilt might have changed that!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteI really like how you used the grey sashing. It doesn't stand out, yet adds so much to the quilt. Way to go!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, the quilting is really lovely. It adds a whole new dimension to the design.
ReplyDeleteI like the ivory - sets off all the other colors, I think you should win!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't like this colour at all when I first saw it, but this is oneof the quilts that has made me think again. Great going!
ReplyDeleteOh man, so much richness in your quilt! That pop of white adds so much interest and movement, and the grey pairs really beautifully with the marsala tones. And the quilting is SO GOOD! :O Love this. :)
