Finishing Touches

I admit it, I have a problem finishing projects.  Before I'm barely started with one, the next one is calling me out.  I have more ideas, fabric, drawings, patterns and tools that are waiting to be used.
One of the reasons I like making bags, pillows, and minis is that they are projects that are finished quickly so my ADD doesn't kick into overdrive before I can get the small item finished.

One of the things I'm slow to do unless there is a deadline is the binding.  I had a quilt sit for 3 years with no binding.  Then when I added the binding it took all of about an hour (I usually machine bind).

This wall hanging just lacked the binding for 3 months, and then it was probably only finished because it was intended for my granddaughter's nursery and she was due to arrive.

I'm not one of those people who neatly roll their binding on to an old spool or something.  It just lays there in a puddle, waiting to be added

And voila it's finished, even added a label (another thing I often don't get to, but I'm trying to be better at)

And up on the nursery wall

The bed skirt matches the Elephant wall hanging

Nursery sewing I have to say, is quite rewarding.  I love to dress up the room with color

Nursery Sewing

I'm still calling it 'sewing' even though it was mostly cutting and tying.
My gran girl will make her entrance real soon and I'm helping with the finishing touches on the nursery.  My daughter in non-traditional, and we were searching for a way to hide the bottom of the crib without using a traditional bed skirt.  I came across this post on Instagram.

Taking the blank page of the crib

We chose a variety Alsion Glass fabrics, these will go with something else for the room.  The parents both like patch work and didn't want one particular color. These different Alison Glass fabrics fit the bill perfectly.

I free cut the strips different widths and we tied them on a cotton cord.  I mostly had fat quarters so the lengths ended up being about the same.

It was a fun project that we could do together.  It didn't take long to finish because there wasn't any sewing!  We know it will eventually have to come down when the baby begins crawling and climbing, but for now its a fun colorful addition to the nursery.

After this photo we tied a few more around the corners and side to hide more of the cording

Made the baby her minky and flannel blanket for her too.  The Mom is sleeping with it so it will smell like her for the baby.

And we did a little pre baby photo shoot, this is one of my favorites, catching the parents in a moment of fun and laughter.  Now if that baby would just make her entrance!

Nursery Sewing

Another month, another baby, and another round of nursery sewing.

I love what this mom picked out for her son's room.  Madras plaid.
Only she offered up a photo for an example and I had to make up the rest.
Pressure, pressure, pressure.

So I came up with a pillow as an example so she could approve the pattern before I sewed all the rest.

This is a mixture of some plaids we had chosen and solids.  I used a variegated thread for the quilting.
The pillow is 18" and backed with a light blue minky.  The darkest fabric is a navy, not black.

I added a Divided Fabric Basket (pattern by Noodlehead

A minky backed flannel blanket monogrammed with the babe's initials

Burp cloths

So here is the whole baby shower package

The pillow was especially well received, Yay!  I was on pins and needles worried about the random pattern and colors I chose.  I will add a primary red and a golden color in solids when I start the bumpers pads for the crib.
