I had a little bit of inspiration the other day, and did a lot of fabric pulling.  Yep, liking this, looking good.

Did some cutting.  I used the print as inspiration for the color choices. Yep, liking this, looking good.

More cutting into triangles.  Still looks good.  I'm on a roll. 

And boom.  Hit a brick wall.  This is just too busy.  I so wanted this to work, but the print is lost with all the colors.  I am bummed.

So I pulled out a solid and went through a couple to find something that I liked and it may just go this way.  But I am pondering.  This helps the colors quite a bit.  But I really want to use the print.  This is based on the pattern by Alison Glass, Spectrum which you can find on her website.  (p.s. she used a solid, because she is smart like that)

My Favorite Fabric Basket

I'm talking the The Divided Fabric Basket pattern by Noodlehead.  I made a couple more this week for gifts.  I've decided this is my new new-baby gift.  The one on the left is the one I made for myself in the middle of the night a couple of weeks ago.  The hippo fabric is Kokko Japanese fabric, the cotton / linen blend.  That fabric works well for exterior pieces, you don't have to use the iron on stabilizer step in the pattern if you use this fabric (but do still use the fusible fleece.)

The basket with the green hippo fabric I didn't use the binding across the top of the pocket, but have decided to use that from now on.  I prefer the finished look with binding across the top of the pocket.  On the blue hippo basket, I actually cut down the pocket about an inch to have more of the exterior fabric showing, and I think I will do that from now on also.

I have had some Creative Thrusday fabric for awhile and wasn't sure exactly what to do with it, I think it worked perfect for this fabric basket.  This is the back of the basket, I fussy cut so what I wanted would show up across the back.  

This is the front with pocket - what that isn't Creative Thursday fabric?  

Because when I fussy cut for the front pocket, I thought too hard about it and cut it so the little people wound up sideways.  I thought about still using it, which is why the binding is attached, but since it is a gift, this piece is going in the one day make a hodge podge fabric basket from all the left overs pile.
